Overview
A desktop audio and video converter built with Python and Tkinter that runs FFmpeg in the background. Files are queued with drag and drop and converted to MP4, MKV, WebM, MOV, MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG, or the soundtrack is extracted from a video. Quality and resolution can be chosen, and compatible files convert in seconds with a fast mode that skips re-encoding. It shows real progress and time left, can be stopped, and has light/dark themes and a Turkish/English interface. Verified by 38+ tests and shipped as a Windows installer with FFmpeg included.
01 · Problem
FFmpeg is the most capable conversion tool, but it is used from the command line and needs codec knowledge. Most free front-ends are ad-heavy, upload your files to a website, or re-encode every file from scratch and keep you waiting for minutes.
02 · Solution
I built a desktop app that runs FFmpeg safely with subprocess and offers presets instead of codec names. Files are first read and validated with ffprobe; when the codecs already fit the target, fast mode only changes the container. Progress is read live from FFmpeg's output, work runs in background threads, and the user's files are protected: nothing is overwritten and no half-written file is left behind.
03 · Outcome
A 1080p MKV becomes an MP4 in under a second, and a 4K video is shrunk with a live time estimate while the window stays responsive. Real-world cases such as portrait phone videos, broken files and odd resolutions are covered by tests. The app is published as an installer that bundles a verified FFmpeg and needs nothing else.
